SDG Policy and Institutional Framework

A structured framework for education, research, campus operations, outreach, governance and annual review.

1. Preamble

Vel Tech High Tech Dr. Rangarajan Dr. Sakunthala Engineering College recognises sustainability as a core institutional responsibility. The SDG Policy supports the integration of sustainable development principles in academics, research, innovation, administration, campus management and community engagement.

2. Vision

To develop socially responsible graduates and create measurable institutional contributions toward sustainable, inclusive and resilient development.

3. Objectives

  • Promote SDG awareness among students, faculty and staff.
  • Map curriculum, projects, research and outreach to relevant SDGs.
  • Improve campus sustainability in energy, water, waste, greenery and safety.
  • Strengthen community engagement and social responsibility.
  • Publish annual evidence-based SDG performance reports.

4. Scope

This policy applies to academic departments, centres, clubs, NSS, professional societies, administrative units, hostels and campus service units.

5. Governance Structure

  • SDG Advisory Committee: Provides strategic direction and reviews annual progress.
  • SDG Coordinator: Coordinates data collection, documentation and reporting.
  • Department SDG Representatives: Maintain department-wise activity, project and research evidence.
  • IQAC: Monitors quality, documentation consistency and institutional reporting.

6. Academic Integration

Departments may map courses, laboratory experiments, student projects, internships, workshops and extension activities to SDGs wherever relevant. Outcome-based education records may include SDG mapping to support continuous improvement.

7. Research and Innovation

Faculty and student research shall be mapped to SDGs based on publication theme, project objective, societal relevance and measurable outcomes. The institution will encourage research in clean energy, health, water, AI for society, sustainable infrastructure, environment and inclusive technologies.

8. Campus Sustainability

The institution shall promote energy conservation, renewable energy adoption, water conservation, rainwater harvesting, waste segregation, responsible e-waste handling, green cover and regular audits.

9. Outreach and Community Engagement

NSS, departments, clubs and student chapters shall conduct community-oriented programmes related to health, education, environment, digital literacy, safety, cleanliness and social inclusion.

10. Monitoring and Reporting

The SDG Cell shall maintain goal-wise records, activity reports, photographs, participant details, beneficiary details, outcome statements, audit reports and annual SDG reports. The framework shall be reviewed periodically for improvement.
